Our Last Meeting of 2017:

October 24, 2017, 7:00—9:00 Member Meeting and Demonstration by Jacob Baker, Stained Glass Artist, I will start and finish a small project as my demonstration, I’m going show how I make a Beeker.

Here’s a description of the what I’ll cover during the presentation:

Stained glass work is often equated with the colorful panel of a church window or the decorative flower that might hang from a suction-cup affixed to one’s kitchen window. In my demonstration, I will cover the basics of the copper foil method for creating with stained glass, while encouraging you to think differently about what can be accomplished with this stubbornly two-dimensional material. Along the way I will throw in some history, some tips and tricks to avoid cuts, burns, and noxious fumes, and hopefully leave you with the notion that you would like to try stained glass work or get back into it after a 15 year break like I did.

Artistic Statement

Jacob Baker is a self-taught artist, born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia in 1964. His multimedia sculptures explore the tensions between natural boundaries; places where the edges of land, air, water, and light meet. Selecting an innovative pallet of stained glass, stone, driftwood, and metals, Jacob captures the energy that occurs when dissimilar worldly elements touch. Conceived as works for residential settings, his candle lit sculptures bring the beauty, movement, and atmosphere of nature indoors.

Jacob is a juried Professional Member of the American Craft Council. He lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota and creates his pieces at Design Canoe Studio, which he founded in 2015.
